YOU CAN'T MAKE MONEY ONLINE

I visited a friend of mine two days ago and while we got talking, I made a comment on how it was taking forever to get my Geegpay account verified. My friend wanted to know what Geegpay was all about, so I mentioned to him that it is an online payment platform that allows you to receive international payments, especially as a freelancer. Somehow, he asked if I was going to be receiving dollars through the account and I replied in the affirmative. Instantly, he made this request that got me really troubled: "Abeg, teach me how to make money online nau, e be like say I no serious with my life..." I was about to pass that remark off as a joke when I noticed the flush of depression on his face, so I had to pause for a moment and cut him some slack (well, I didn’t use a blunt knife). It wasn’t the request that got me thinking, but the comment he made at the end of the request. So I went ahead to tell him this very thing I’m about to share with you.

First, I'd like to know: Who sold you the idea that you are not serious about your life if you aren't making money online? (Geez, you just blew a huge chunk of cash there.)

You see, being able to make money online or not doesn’t validate the seriousness of your life. Yes! I know the internet today tends to provide a plethora of chances for earning money, especially using our smartphones in the comfort of our homes, and many times, people who feel they have a model that is working make it seem as though the one who isn’t earning from their internet usage isn’t ready for life. Countless success stories, screenshots, and viral videos showcasing extraordinary wealth can often leave us feeling like we're missing out.

True as it may be, there’s a huge reserve of money on the internet, and absolutely anybody can earn that money, but not everybody can. Now why is that so?

There’s a whole lot of energy that goes into making money online, from acquiring a skill to facing and outshining the saturated market, and many people are simply not cut out for that. This is not about being lazy; many times there’s a lot more involved, like personality issues, busy schedules, limited access to valuable information and tools, and so on.

While it is easy for someone else to show their face online and sweet talk people into paying for their service, it is not so easy for another; also, while it is convenient for someone else to get into any circle and get involved, another can’t for some very personal reasons.

For instance, as a Christian, there are certain online communities I can’t identify with, no matter how much that community will afford me, because I have a reputation to protect. There is no pushing it; we are beautifully unique, and we should appreciate the precious strengths (and weaknesses) that come with our uniqueness. Let’s understand that what works for us may not work for others and vice versa.

Furthermore, making money is important; however, it is not what ultimately gives meaning to life; your ability to find your purpose and diligently keep at it is far more fulfilling, even when it doesn’t necessarily bring you money.

Finally, before you begin to feel left out and put yourself under undue pressure, first look inward, appreciate who you are and the many other things you can do, and when next you begin to feel less of yourself because you aren’t making money online, take a deep breath and shake off that thought with these words of affirmation: "I am valuable with or without money." "Making money doesn’t define my worth!"

You are indeed valuable. Cheers!

  2. Getting over the fact that you can not do what others are doing it's arduous, however, we must press on without letting it temper with our self-worth.
