FLIP THE LIGHTS ON!

Yippee! It’s good to be back... It really feels like home here; thanks to you.

Trust you don’t want to know how rough my weekend was... From weekend exams, to epileptic power supply (and you know how these things are in Nigeria, nobody thinks they owe you an explanation for what happened) then Uncle Sapa did me really bad, and just when I thought I was done for, my  two weeks old laptop charger blew up on an otherwise glorious Sunday morning... Gosh! My weekend was really one hell.

But Yes, I survived and I want to share with you something spectacular I learnt amidst all these chaos.

So one of those nights, while I was working late into the morning around 4am precisely, the power went out and I had to return to sleep. Lying there in the dark, I heard one of the guys in the room crawl out of bed (we were three in that room...yes, it’s quite large). It was obvious he wanted to step out and use the rest room. The whole place was entirely dark. I could hear his calculated footsteps as he used the wall as a guide to the door. (Don't act like you don't know that stuff we all do in the dark...ha-ha)

Recognizing his need for light, I mentioned to him that his phone was on the table beside the bed (I had unplugged it from the other room where he had plugged it earlier and plugged mine since his was already full). Somehow, either he thought I was sleep talking or he was still caught in between sleeping and being awake; he didn’t respond. Eventually, he found the door and stepped out only to return some few seconds later to ask what I was saying after he couldn’t find his phone in the other room. I replied that I had unplugged his phone and kept it on the table next to the bed; of course that was after I asked if he didn’t hear me the first time and He muffled some words I couldn’t put meaning to.

From the door where he stood, it was a 5 seconds walk to the table but in the dark, I could hear him wobble around for another 45 seconds before getting to his phone. Finally, he flipped on his phone lights and instantly, I could hear the thudding of his feet as he briskly made his way out of the door into the rest room within split seconds.

As soon as his footsteps fainted in the dark, this scripture flashed through my spirit: “they stumble that walk in darkness” (that should be John 11:10) and immediately, the Holy Spirit began to take me through an exhilarating convo on the futility of walking in the dark.

He mentioned that life and living became chaotic after the fall in the garden but it gets even worse when we are not walking in the light... He went on to say that sometimes we might even think we have the picture of our proposed destination at the back of our minds but we’ll continue to circle around in uncertainty most times seeking identity, validation and assurance from almost everything that comes our way just like that my guy was holding unto the wall to be sure he was on track.

And yes, He also mentioned that it’s possible to make progress in the dark but that not without so much delay, mistakes, bruises on our legs and a whole lot of other calamities, and consequently, a journey that should have taken 2 years would eat up 10 to 15 years of our short lives. Wow, that sucks!

He went on and on for almost an hour, and by the time He was done, I had learnt that to be able to win in life is to walk in the light and that; THE LIGHT OF GOD. I learnt that to be able to be ahead in life is to allow Jesus shine His light upon our path; to obediently follow where He leads, and carefully place our feet in His footmarks, and most times, we do not need to be careful on where we are going because with Him leading, we are always on track.

Yes we might scream on the top of our lungs that we are the light of the world but we mustn’t forget that every light bulb needs to stay connected to a power source to be able to keep shining. Our power source is the Bright and Morning Star, e no d use fuel.

Perhaps you are still walking in darkness, uncertain about the next step to take in one area of your life or the other, I recommend that you get connected to this eternal source of light and let Jesus flip the lights on.

Just so you know, He doesn’t only shine on you, He also shines through you.

PS: there are no ten steps to getting connected, just believe on the Lord Jesus and surrender to Him as your Lord and Saviour.
